What is IRONMAN Frankfurt?
The IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt takes place every June and is one of the oldest IRONMAN events in the world. Athletes from more than 70 nations race the full Ironman distance: a 3.86 km swim, a 180 km bike leg and a 42.195 km run – 226 kilometres in total on a single race day.
The course
The swim takes place in the Langener Waldsee lake south of Frankfurt, before athletes head out on the 180 km bike course through the surrounding countryside. The closing marathon leads back into Frankfurt's city centre, past the skyline, to a finish in the heart of the city – cheered on by thousands of spectators along the entire route.

Preparation
226 km across three disciplines is above all a question of race strategy: practise your transitions, test your nutrition on the bike and the run, and plan a realistic pace for the closing marathon, since your legs will already carry real fatigue after 180 km in the saddle.
