02 / The story

MARATHON LONDON.

From Greenwich to Buckingham Palace – the London Marathon combines royal history with world-class running.

The London Marathon has run through the British capital since 1981 – from Blackheath and Greenwich, across Tower Bridge, along the Thames, all the way to its finish on The Mall right in front of Buckingham Palace.

The course links historic landmarks like the Tower of London with modern districts like Canary Wharf. As one of the six World Marathon Majors, London is one of the most prestigious marathons in the world.

The London Marathon is also known as the world's largest annual charity sporting event – every year participants raise millions for good causes.

03 / Race DNA

Records & Numbers.

Since 1981, the London Marathon has been one of the six World Marathon Majors – alongside Berlin, Boston, Chicago, New York and Tokyo.

In 2003, Paula Radcliffe ran a world record of 2:15:25 in London, a mark that stood for 16 years and remains one of the most legendary marathon times in history.

Every April, more than 50,000 runners line up at the start — the London Marathon is also considered the world's largest annual charity sporting event.
