What are the ADAC Cyclassics?
The ADAC Cyclassics in Hamburg are the biggest one-day amateur cycling event in Germany. They take place in late August, on the same weekend as the UCI WorldTour professional race, on fully closed roads. Depending on the year, distances range from around 60 to 155 kilometres; the 110 km loop is the most popular middle distance.
The 110 km route
Start and finish are in the centre of Hamburg. The loop heads out of the city, across the Elbe into the Altes Land and the countryside around Hamburg, and back into the centre. The profile is mostly flat – the only real ramp is the short, steep Waseberg in Blankenese, ridden several times on the longer routes. The wide-road finish in the city centre is a highlight.
Key facts
- Distance: 110 km (other loops depending on the year, e.g. around 60 and 155 km)
- Climbing: minimal, mostly flat
- Signature climb: Waseberg (short and steep, in Hamburg-Blankenese)
- Date: late August
- Location: Hamburg
Who the course suits
The 110 km is ideal for keen recreational riders: flat enough for a high pace, long enough for a real day out, plus the atmosphere of a mass start on closed roads. Crosswind sections in the Altes Land and riding in big groups shape the race more than the climbing does. Ride the draft cleverly and you save a lot of energy.
The ADAC Cyclassics as a poster
You can open the official route straight in the editor and design your poster – with the course line, distance and, optionally, your time, the date and your name. If you rode the Cyclassics yourself, upload the GPX file of your own activity instead (how to export it from Strava).
